Detect missing protective equipment and hazards with cameras
Construction sites use cameras to detect missing protective equipment and hazards
Fits: Production, engineering & maintenance · Field service & trades
Cameras give an on-site warning when someone enters the crane area without a helmet or high-visibility vest, a fall edge is open, or someone is standing under a suspended load. The warning remains anonymous: it serves protection, not monitoring of individual employees.
Is this for you?
- You have larger sites with a crane, fall edges or site traffic and know about near misses.
- The works council and workforce are prepared to support an anonymous on-site warning.
- You can run cameras with power and network for the whole construction period and move them for each construction phase.
Today, photograph three or four spots on your site without people, such as a slab edge, a floor opening and the crane’s slewing area. Use the template below to get a description of which hazards can be seen in the images and which cannot. This shows you whether camera images show the hazards at all.
How to go about it
- Define hazards and protective equipment
- Point cameras at hazard areas
- Record test scenes with volunteers
- Test warnings and set sensitivity
- Trigger the warning on site, without names
- Check false warnings and gaps every month
