Stop fraudulent calls and SIM swap fraud
Telecoms providers detect fraudulent calls and SIM swapping
Fits: IT & software development · Legal & compliance · Customer service
When fraudsters have a phone number moved to their own SIM card to intercept confirmation codes for bank accounts, the sequence of events gives it away. Bait calls from expensive premium-rate numbers and mass calls are detected before many customers call back.
Is this for you?
- You offer mobile services and have had cases in which customers lost money after a SIM swap.
- Events such as SIM swaps, password changes, call forwarding and call patterns are stored and can be linked.
- Network operations, customer service and the security team can jointly carry a project over several months.
Create a table of about twelve invented customer events: a normal SIM swap in a shop, a swap via the hotline with call forwarding shortly afterwards, a device change with an eSIM. Have them checked with the template below and see whether the normal device change gets through.
How to go about it
- Define fraud schemes and warning signs
- Link customer, sales and network events
- Set up rules and a model for real-time detection
- Have suspicious cases checked by the fraud team
- Define protective measures
- Adapt detection to new schemes
